This piece was composed for two afternoon concerts, June 16 and 17, 2018 at Cafe Oto in London, during Summer Solstice.
Initially presented as New Noise Guitar Explorations, and featuring four electric 12-string guitars and percussion, the composition was formulated from a meditation on a simple melodic line from a recording of Alice Coltrane, using her Sanskrit name Turiyasangitananda, of Hindu devotional songs.
The title evolved from a consideration of Turiya Coltrane's sound world in relation to the spirit conscious artwork of Moki Cherry, a woman who exhibited utopian ideals of love and creative energy through visionary, and glorious, pieces of handsewn textile and appliqué. And to the poet and activist Jayne Cortez who wrote, performed and published poetry as a political and benificent practice.
While all three women are historically recognized through the profiles of their partners (John Coltrane, Don Cherry, Ornette Coleman) their vocations seemingly did not necessitate celebrity and ego, regardless of the patriarchal attention lauded to the men in their lives. Their personal faiths and feminist energies, their relationships with each other, their communities, and their marriages, all evince a personal resonance to the creative energy of love life, and a love-for-life, as a resolute meaning for art.
Alice Moki Jayne, written for electric 12-string guitar, can be played solo or with chosen accompaniment. This particular recording is of three electric 12-string guitars, one electric 6-string baritone bass guitar, electronics and percussion.

Sonic Youth is one of those bands where you easily run out of superlatives to describe what they created. This could've easily come off as a cynical cash-grab by a band that had broken up 11 years prior to the release of this record, but that's not what this is. Some of my favourite Sonic Youth instrumentals. sentient meat

Me and my friend used to go on drives all the time, and a lot of the time i asked what he was playing, and a majority of the songs were from Yo La Tengo. And since i went and listened to And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside-Out i was fan. Never thought i’d buy one of their records for myself. violetstain
